THE MEDIC’S HOMECOMING by author Lynne Marshall is a Harlequin Special Edition release for July 2013.

Coming home to Whispering Oaks, Lucas Grady is not ready to face his future or his past. Then he looks at the girl next door, Jocelyn Howard, his childhood friend all grown up now.

Will he let the attraction between them turn into something more? More to the point, is he ready to commit? So he decided to move away.
Jocelyn has always loved Lucas. And specially after the sensual turn their relationship took, can she let Lucas walk away from her again?

THE MEDIC’S HOMECOMING is a well-written romance. I loved reading about Lucas’s parents’ and his sister Anne’s story interwoven in the main romance of Lucas and Jocelyn. Lynne Marshall brings this exceptional romance that will touch your heart and make you shed tears. The PTSD issue highlighted in this story makes this a very real story. You get hooked into Jocelyn and Lucas journey would very much read this romance in one sitting!

Highly recommended.

The Medic's Homecoming by Lynne Marshall is a story of childhood friends being reunited after ten years apart and going from friends to lovers and so much more.

Army Medic Lucas Grady has returned home to Whispering Oaks after ten years in the military. He has returned to his childhood home to help his parents. His father is recovering from a motorcycle accident that has left him with a cast on one leg, and another on his opposite arm. Suffering from PTSD from the horrors of war, he is a changed man. Gone is the easy going young man, replaced with one who feels he don't fit in. Lucas worries the lack of sleep and intense nightmares will frighten those he loves.

Jocelyn Howard first fell in love with Lucas at the tender age of twelve, not that he noticed. Best friends growing up, but it has been ten years since they have seen each other. Once she comes face to face with Lucas, she realizes the attraction is till there. Jocelyn has her own issues to overcome.

Soon these childhood friends move on as lovers, but after an accident with PTSD Lucas feels he needs to isolate himself. Drifting in uncertainty as to which road to travel in life. But he feels distance from everyone he loves would be for the best.

Lynn Marshall has written a novel dealing with a difficult issue. In the time frame that the book allows I thought she did a really good job. Showing anger, frustration, nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks and lack of sleep. Most of all she shows people caring about each other. I loved how the family was brought into the story line. She also made me feel as though I was living in Whispering Oaks. And at one point I could have sworn I was riding in a restored Mustang convertible with the top down. Well done!

THE MEDIC'S HOMECOMING is the second book in author Lynne Marshall's WHISPERING OAKS series, the first being COURTING HIS FAVORITE NURSE.  It was a pleasure to return to this rural Californian community for more gentle romance.

Lucas Grady, the brother of Anne Grady, the heroine of COURTING HIS FAVORITE NURSE, is a different type of character.  He failed to live up to his father's high expectations and didn't become a doctor.  He did however, serve abroad in the military as a medic for many years. Now honorably discharged, having been afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), he now has to build himself a new life.  So he returns to his native community, to support his parents as they recover from an accident.  He is a simple man who enjoyed a lifelong attraction for Jocelyn, the girl next door and it looks as if they might still carry a torch for each other.  Jocelyn has built up a successful career as a teacher and aspires to do better, but Lucas feels he has to become someone great before he can become Jocelyn's man. Jocelyn, for her part,  loves him just the way he is.  But he has his fears.  Will she still love him when she understands how PTSD has affected him psychologically?

That Lucas is a brave man is beyond a doubt.  He's faced the terrors of war.  He's been psychologically wounded. More a beta than an alpha hero, certainly a loving, caring man who enjoys restoring vintage cars.  Very human and totally believable.

THE MEDIC'S HOMECOMING is a book about finding healing through true love, about finding out who you really are and how the very best thing in your life could be right next door to you.  It was a truly emotional and true to life  read, exactly the type of book which I enjoy and at which Lynne Marshall excels.  I thoroughly recommend it for readers of romance fiction, for readers of family stories and for fans of Lynne Marshall's writing.

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
