My first ever book by the talented Melissa Cutler was
Tempted into Danger, which I very highly recommend. I knew then I was going to
be a fan of her writing style. I was very excited to read Colton by Blood.
Kate is the Pastry chef at Dead River Ranch. She has
struggled to get out of debt after losing her husband and unborn child in a
tragic accident six years ago. She also wants to figure out who could have
murdered her best friend Faye Frick, which puts her in the path of a kidnapper
and murdered.
Dr. Levi Colton has come to Dead River Ranch to help the man
who fathered him but never acknowledged him as his son. Jethro Colton has
Leukemia and without a bone marrow transplant he will not last long. What I
really liked about Levi’s character was even though he grew up poor and without
a father’s love. He had a forgiving heart and made a life for himself.
Melissa has a great talent for writing characters that you
can’t help but fall in love with. Dr. Levi Colton and Kate McCord are perfect
examples. They are instantly attracted
to each other. Both Levi and Kate have had suffered the loss of loved ones in
their lives and are working to overcome their past. I loved the flirty way they
were with each other. And both had such kind and forgiving hearts. And I am not
sure I will ever be able to look at a peach again and not think of a certain
scene in the kitchen.
For such a short novel it packs a serious punch. You have
quite a few issues, yet I really didn’t feel like I missed out. It is about
overcoming the loss of those you loved. Finding forgiveness, and opening your
heart to the possibility of a new love.
