A Father This Christmas by Louisa Heaton

Reviewed by Nas

A FATHER THIS CHRISTMAS by author Louisa Heaton is a Harlequin Medical Romance series release for November 2015.

Dr. Eva Corday had one passion-filled night on Christmas Eve four years ago. She had not forgotten that night and had a lovely reminder of Jacob Dolan in the form of her son, Seb.

Now four years later Dolan was standing in her ER department as the new doctor. He was back from Africa and was on a mission to find Eva, but what would happen when he finds that Eva had kept Seb a secret from him? He had missed the first three years of his son’s life. Could that fact override the feelings they had for each other? Eva wanted to be loved and cherished for herself. Could Dolan forgive her and forget his own past while moving forward with Eva and Seb?

A FATHER THIS CHRISTMAS is a sweet romance filled with emotions to tug your heart. Dolan had his own demons to fight with before he could commit. And Eva, though a strong person, had her own insecurities which she had to overcome. Author Louisa Heaton has her own unique style with words and hooks a reader in charmingly with her story telling.

Highly recommended for all readers of medical romance.

This is a beautifully written moving and emotional story that will have you grabbing for the tissues and smiling as well as Dr Eva Corday finds love and family and Dr Jacob Dolan comes to terms with things that have driven him from his past and little Seb has a mother and father.

Eva has never had a family she grew up through the foster care system but always dreamed of family and when one night of passion with Jacob leaves her pregnant and alone, although she searches for him she is unsuccessful so she carries on life to the fullest with her son never thinking that she would see Jacob again.

That one last night in England for Jacob was never forgotten Eva the gorgeous red head was always in his mind and when years later he finally comes to terms with his past he returns to England from Africa and finds Eva but what he discovers also will shock him but make him more determined to open up to Eva and his son Seb although with it being Christmas many memories are brought back.

This is such a gorgeous story I have been lucky enough to always have family but Eva hadn't and to feel her joy as Jacob, Seb and her get closer is amazing and to see Jacob come to terms with what had happened to him and re-uniting with his family will have you smiling, Seb is such a beautiful little boy and of course I do love Christmas stories especially set in the cooler climates my recommendation is don't miss this one I loved it.

Dr. Eva Corday spent one hot Christmas Eve night in the arms of Dr. Jacob Dolan four years. But when Jacob leaves her bed the next day without her knowing, he leaves a part of himself with her unknowingly. Eva gets pregnant and delivers a beautiful baby boy named Seb. And when Eva thinks she’d never see Jacob again, now years later he is back and standing in her ER department looking as handsome as ever. In the Blink of an Eye by Lynne Marshall

REVIEW BY TashNz

America's traditional time to give thanks is at Thanksgiving.  Here in New Zealand I and most other Kiwis take time to pause and give thanks at Christmas.  So I was sitting here thinking OMG Christmas is upon us already.  I started reflecting about the the last year; I've been so privileged and thankful to be exposed to and to have read such a huge variety of books in the Romance genre written by many fabulous authors that I'd previously not have been so quick to pick up and I came to  realise it's an absolute skill to be able to draw a reader in, make the reader understand characters, develop plot, reach a satisfying conclusion and make the reader feel deep emotion in just 29 pages!

Lynne Marshall's In the Blink of an Eye  is a short story which is, well, short.  Three chapters to be precise.  In those three chapters we meet Dr Ellen Deeds who's an ER Dr, along side her ex husband Dr Adam Deeds.  Unhappily divorced... For the first time in a year they're working the same shift. At the end of the demanding shift Ellen and Adam let their guards down which results in a phenomenal time in the on-call room.  Now this is the magic... somehow in three short chapters this happens, as well as Adam deciding he's going to go in guns blazing to try win his wife back, a near tragedy happens, a scene in the emergency room happens, we meet the Dr's lil girl, Ellen's feelings are quite clearly made and if you thought that was all... there's still room for a surprising twist.  It was a real surprise to me and yet there's still room for more.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm blown away with what would normally take a complete book to tell Adam and Ellen's story, took Lynne Marshall three chapters and that over the year, as I sit here reflecting, I realise it's an absolute skill to do this.  I had all the emotions in three chapters that I would normally feel in a full length novel... I was happy, concerned, worried, overjoyed, sad, ecstatic, excited, touched, teary eyed and I smiled.

I recommend In the Blink of an Eye to any novella fans, short story fans, Lynne Marshall fans, medical romance fans and anyone looking for a quick read, for 0.98c at Amazon you cant really go wrong, trust me, you'll have it read...wait for it... in the blink of an eye ;)

A very short read but with a very extremely powerful message about life lessons!

Three years ago a tragedy changed the lives of Ellen and Adam. Their once happy marriage spiralled down the deep dark hole of depression, anger, hurt and even addiction.

Thinking there is nothing left and forgiveness is the last thing on her list for anything related to her husband, she kicks him out, heaven knows the man won't leave on his own.

But once he's gone she realizes how much she misses him, but reminds herself she needs to strengthen her resolved and move on. Until one day at work a sexual encounter with Adam let's her just momentary forget how badly he destroyed their lives. Afterwards Adam asks the one thing of her she cannot possibly give, so she walks away. Then the unthinkable happens and she realizes just how wrong she was.

This was as mentioned a very short read, coming in at only three chapters, it took only twenty minutes to read, but it was the most intense twenty minutes of my day! The read was so emotionally powerful it completely blew me away with each and every word!

The author really made sure to take a quick story and give it all the heat and drama of a full length read. The characters are ones you cannot help feel sorry for and yes I cried right along with them both.

But it also made me stop to think what exactly it is I would do if I were in the heroine's situation. I certainly would not blame her for her reaction as each and every person handles a tragedy or life changing event differently and I also would not think Adam's actions strange.

I loved the message of this read! Never think it will never happen to you, and never forget that forgiving is the only form of healing that will truly matter for without it life will never be as it use to be, and anyone can make a mistake. Never only focus on your own pain. if you look at the other person involved long enough you will notice just how it has changed their lives too.

I highly recommend this read for fans of Lynne Marshall books! The author has once again shown just why her stories are so highly addictive even with a short read she still manges to pack one heck of an emotional punch, and left me completely in awe of her writing skills, most full length reads do not even always manage it so really truly stunning brilliant work Lynne!

A heart-rending yet totally compulsive read which really should strike terror into the heart of any caring parent, particularly a parent or grandparent of young ‘uns.  When I got a sense of what the book was about, my heart ached for Ellen, yet I was totally unable to leave the book until I reached the cathartic conclusion.  The ending was totally satisfactory and left me with a sense of completion.  No, we don’t live in a perfect world, but when the healing power of love does its unique work, there is some redemption available, some salvaging of  healing out of heartbreak.  That sense of overcoming heartbreak is at the heart of all good romance fiction.

Ellen’s unable to forgive her spouse because he made one little mistake which brought tragedy into their marriage.  She still loves and needs him, but try as she might, she’s unable to forgive and forget.  Then one day, in the blink of an eye, something happens which changes her outlook completely.

Recommended for readers of quality romance fiction.  Or just quality fiction.

Rescuing Dawn by Nicole Flockton

Finding the man of your dreams during your teenager years is very rare, okay not so rare but holding onto that love found is a complete different story.

You are both still young and have hopes and dreams, and if the dreams don't meet up in the middle there really is no chance of the relationship working.

In this read from author Nicole Flockton she tells the story of Dawn, she once met the man of her dreams but then he went off seeking adventure and left her behind. She dealt with the pain and heartache only to find more heartache. So when the man of her dreams Andrew walks back into her life she understandably would rather run away then run back into his arms again.

The character of Dawn was a tragic one, she has suffered loss of loved ones more than once and that has made her the type of person that would rather just focus on work and nothing else, for getting attached to anyone and then loosing them would be more than she can bare, she will not put herself at risk again. I did not so much like the character, as yes I could understand she has been hurt and is scared to take a risk at loving again, but the reasoning behind her guilt trip with regards to not being allowed happiness was just a little too unreal. I honestly wanted to grab this character and just shake some sense into her. I did however love that the author uses her past pain to open the road to a new life, but as I said I did really care too much for the reasoning of the guilt.

The character of Andrew was very pleasant, I understood his reasoning for leaving Dawn behind so long ago, all of us needs adventure and sometimes we have no choice but to let go of ones we love in order to go and seek our happiness.  I adored that the author lets him be kind and caring and very patient with Dawn, it showed that the man is definitely strong enough to take whatever Dawn and her pain throws his way.

The backdrop and dialogue was well written and had a nice and cosy feeling to it. What I did not like about this read was that it was slow and almost dragged out, yes healing takes time but at times I found myself wanting to shout out " Just spit it out already!"

I feel the author could have moved the healing between Andrew and Dawn to a quicker pace,I think this would have given the read a bit more excitement, which would have let the book just flow a little more.

A nice message of when you love someone set them free if it's meant to be they will come back to you.

Overall a very nice afternoon read, with heartfelt romance and lots of emotion. I recommend this read for lovers of reading romance where past and future collides to make way for a happy ever after.

Rescuing Dawn by Nicole Flockton

Andrew Holmes left Nicole after dating her for two years. He told her he was going to follow his dreams of sailing around the world and he did not know when he would be back. After a near death experience at sea he returns home to become a Paramedic and comes face to face with the woman he never forgot.

Dawn Granger never truly got over the young man who walked away from her. He had been her entire life. And when Andrew left so did a big piece of her heart. After a number of years she met and married Tom, even though the love was more one sided, she had moved on to a certain extent. Then tragedy struck when a car accident took the life of her husband and son. She now finds herself working long hours as an emergency room nurse on the graveyard shift, only to go home eat and go to bed so she can get up and do it all over again. This is how she copes, with the unbearable lost of her husband and young infant son.  Dawn is still suffering grief two years later.

Dawn has mixed feelings about starting a relationship again with Andrew or any man for that matter. And part of me as a reader totally understood that. I think I would have felt the same feelings to a certain extent, would he walk away again, would be at the back of my mind too.  I did feel there was a great attraction between these two, and that they were meant to be together. I believe Andrew was just very young and selfish in the decisions he made.

I had mixed feelings with this story for a couple of reasons. In the story line Dawn is very indecisive weather she wants to be in a relationship with Andrew again or not, and I don’t mean just a few times. The author at one point writes the following. “I want to believe you, but you tell me you’re ready to move forward and then you take three steps back.” That is how I felt this book was for a while. One to two steps forward then a few steps back. And why had Andrew not gone to the trouble to find Dawn when he returned to Perth? But then the Author writes one of the most moving scenes when Dawn and Andrew go away for a few days. And Dawn is having a little bit of a quiet time reflecting, that just brought me to tears.

Bottom line is this a good read? Yes at times it is good, but at other times frustrating with Dawn’s Character going back and forth so much.

Rescuing Dawn, a 2013 June Crimson Reads release, took me on the heartfelt journey of Dawn, a nurse who has lost everything in the world that was precious to her. A very good looking blast from her past rolls in thru the emergency doors and like all good paramedics do, Andrew decides he will put 100% effort into a rescue, the rescue of Dawn.

I wouldn’t want to be in Dawn’s shoes and think that the author did a great job of describing how one may feel being in such a situation.  I liked Andrew’s character and think that his characteristics suited Dawn and that any other alpha hero wouldn’t have worked in this story.  I liked the emergency ward setting and thought it was a fantastic idea by the author to put Dawn in such a setting to enable her character to grieve by sleeping the day away…it was a small detail that helped form Dawn in my mind and understand a little of what she must be going thru.

Overall I thought Nicole Flockton, one of my favourite debut authors, has given us readers a very carefully written tale which covers a range of sensitive issues with respect and sensitivity.

Rescuing Dawn would be a winner with fans of Medical Romances and Sweet lines and for fans of Novella length stories.

Dawn's life can only be described as ghastly.  She walks in a twilight world, unable to face the day, a woman who 'man's' the night shift, night after night.  As the broken bodies are brought in, there is no balance, no day to balance the night, no health to balance the sickness.  The loss of her husband and child has left her a wife without a husband and a mother without a child.  A woman without a life.  As a nurse, her commitment to the patients injured in emergency is commendable.  But does she have an agenda?

Then, paramedic Andrew comes back into her life.  The man who left her years before, without a backward glance, leaving her devastated.  The man who broke her heart and left her to pick up the pieces of a shattered life.  Which she'd successfully got back together until it shattered again.

Can Andrew and Dawn get things right this time around?  Can Dawn leave the gruesome night shift life and step out into the sun?  Andrew wants to make it happen. But can he?

This is no flirty, frothy romance, but an intense, emotional story which will leave a lump in your throat at times.  But if you like intense, emotional reads, get this.

Family Ties

Imagine working with children each and every day of your life, but not being able to have any of
your own. You crave a child so bad that thoughts of simply picking one up and walking out the hospital doors never to be seen again, pop-up in your mind on a regular basis.

Scary and also a little psychotic, for those of you that have been blessed with children, put yourself in the shoes of a woman that wants a child and simply does not stand the chance. It can ruin any hope of a normal relationship, it can emotionally destroy you and in the end if you are not strong enough it can drive you to  insanity. Would you be strong enough or would you simply give up?

In the new read by Kamy Chetty she explores the traumatic life of Olivia, who gives her all each and every day to make sure new borns' are healthy and that their mothers will have the chance to see their children grow up, it is what she does best.

But deep down in her heart she holds in the pain of a life she simply will never have. Here, she is holding and cuddling adorable little babies and never will she be able to say, "This one is mine! " And because of this Olivia is known in the hospital as the ice lady.

The one man that can however melt her into a puddle of want and need is come-over-here-and-I'll-make-you-smile Jack!

Soon Olivia and Jack start up a relationship. Olivia is upfront with Jack from the start and it does not seem to bother Jack in a major way, but Jack has a skeleton hiding in his closet.

The real question is what will happen when the past pops out of the closet and a whole new world of opportunities arise for Jack, will he be able to get Olivia to stick around or will she take off running because taking a risk to love and then losing it all again, is the pain she never wants to feel again. Or will Jack be the one to make the sacrifice?

The characters were both well written, I felt truly sorry for Oliva, being a mother I can only imagine how terrible it must be to want a child and never being able to have one. I liked that the author started the read, giving me the idea that Olivia is just a little on the nutty side, yes it did worry me a little but it got me looking forward to see what will be the trigger to bring Olivia's wild thoughts back to reality.

Olivia is strong and independent  but simply because she needs to be, if not she will crumble and might never be able to get back up again.  Loved that she gets up and moves on. I could understand why she dwells on the past , but I would have liked to see the author delve just a bit deeper into the precise what, who and where happened to her. She had a jerk of an ex-husband in her past. I got the general idea and enough information to form a picture but not quite what I was searching for.

Jack was a great character, fun and kind of a goof-ball  yet sensitive and caring. He is basically a all round good guy but the author giving him some faces from the past popping up in his life made him a bit of a bad boy, nothing major bad but yes I got the essence of it.

The dialogue was of the pure emotional kind, the author kept to the tune of this being pure drama, she gave me as reader some medical drama that was of the life threatening kind which I liked, and then blended in the romantic drama but very faintly, these two characters were more the kind to have a little argument and immediately also make up, which was kind of a new touch for me as reader as normally we get the hot and heavy conflict from today's reads,  yet I found this conflict over before if even properly starts somewhat refreshing.

The message I am taking away from this read is that you must never give up on your dreams, there is always something or someone waiting in the wings that will be the light you need to crawl up out of the darkness that pain can cause. And when life gives you pain, get up, fight back and you might just find the silver lining.

What could be worse than having your husband cheat on you with your best friend. How about having to work in the same hospital, be the subject of the rumor mill, and watch your ex husband and ex best friend have what you can't have - a baby. As if that wasn't bad enough, you work on the Delivery ward of a hospital, seeing babies everyday.

Olivia has been through so much in the last year, now she is focused on her work and making her dream come true. She will have a baby, but she is meeting with obstacles at every turn. A two to four year wait to adopt.  A deal falling through on a private adoption through an attorney. Maybe hardest of all, is seeing the man you are starting to fall for not want anything to do with his little infant daughter in the NICU.

Jack Dawson is struggling to comes to grips with the fact, a preemie baby is needing him and he does not know how to be there for her. His wife left him and had a baby that was not his, but she was killed on the way to the hospital to deliver milk. Not knowing who the father is, it is left on Jack's shoulders to decide little Ruby's future. While one might say how could he not love this little baby, the author showed how difficult it was for Jack to overcome the betrayal from his first wife Mirri. I loved  how Jack was always there for Olivia, standing up for her when others were not so nice.

This book dealt with feelings and everyday lives in a hospital delivery setting. You also watch Jack and Olivia deal with past hurts and betrayals, and grow stronger for the lessons learned in life.

Family Ties packed to the brim with emergencies and drama that consume Midwife Olivia's daily life in her ward. The non-stop action made for a fast paced story that flowed continuously, which contributed towards making it a thoroughly enjoyable read.

The drama doesn't stop in the ward for Olivia; shes madly attracted to her boss Clinical Director of Obstetrics, Dr Jack Dawson who is also feeling the attraction and trying to deal with it. Both Olivia and Jack are lost souls with each having their own reason to feel like they have no chance for life-long happiness.  Olivia also has to work with her nasty ex-husband as well as trying to adopt.

If there's anyone who deserves a happy ever after it's Olivia.  She's had so many knock-downs, she works in an area that internally breaks her heart every day, she dreams of happiness and just wants to move on with life.  She's well written.  Jack has also had a rough lot in life, he also deserves a happy ever after.

But wait, there's more, so much more!  My summary doesn't nearly cover all that Kamy Chetty packs into Family Ties.  It's about two people who have both lost in love and family and deserve happiness. It's action-packed medical drama all mixed in with broken hearts aching to be mended and a little twist.

What I loved about this story besides Jack and Olivia was the non stop medical action, it was constant and exciting to me and I really enjoyed reading how all the emergencies panned out.  I loved that it was set in my home town of Auckland, New Zealand and the mention of our beautiful Pohutukawa trees.  I was also fascinated to learn that you can feel a babies heart beat through the umbilical cord.  Speaking of babies, Family Ties has the cutest little cover ever!

I congratulate you Kamy on your first self published story.  I applaud you for living and achieving your dream.  I cant wait to read more.

In modern times, a vital part of sex education is family planning.  Or rather, not planning children.  Everyone wants to enjoy sex and avoid pregnancy until they are ready to welcome a child into their lives.

This must seem like a cruel joke to women who long to conceive but, for some reason, are unable to do so.  How unbearable it must be to know that you'll never know the flutter if life growing within you, to know you'll never be able to cradle your own newborn infant in your arms.  The need of a woman to be a mother, to bring a child into the world can be overwhelming.

Then there's the irony of life.  Some people don't want kids but can't stop having them.  Look at Jack.  He's been saddled with the premature baby of his late ex-wife.  A child which bears his legal name although he has no biological tie to it.  How ridiculous can it get?

A perfectly innocuous name, Jack Dawson is a great name for a hero in a romance novel.  It's the name of the hero Leonardo Di Caprio made famous in the smash hit movie, TITANIC.  Jack was the dashing romantic hero who appeared in Rose's (Kate Winslet) life one day, became her lover, taught her how to live life to the full and died, leaving her to continue on in life, all the richer for the experience.  Of course it was a tragedy that Jack and Rose couldn't have their happy ever after (HEA).  This Jack, however, can have his HEA if he can only open up to the fact that Olivia loves him.  This warm and compassionate nurse, unable to bear a child of her own despite delivering babies every day, would make a wonderful mother for Jack's unwanted child.  Can Jack -and Olivia - go the extra mile to put themselves on the line and make a family for this little orphaned girl, this tiny scrap of humanity?

Kamy Chetty's writing has a rich and compassionate voice, which has the courage to go where many authors don't.  She applies that voice as much to describing the emotions of maternal longing as she does to making love.  She is a great new discovery in women's fiction and I urge readers of romance and women's fiction to read this author and tell everyone about her.

She deserves it.

Finding the woman of your dreams having a family and being content is a gift and one that should be cherished as it can all be taken away from you in a heartbeat.

For Johnny Griffin he very nearly had it all, a beautiful wife and a baby on the way but life deals a cruel card his way and he loses them both. I reckon it takes a  remarkably strong person to get over such a tragedy and find the strength to carry on with life. So naturally the person building up a wall around their heart is a reaction I can fully understand.

But as we all know it takes just one special person to break down the walls and put back the life in someone who feels half dead all the time. In book seven from the new Harlequin Mills and Boon NYC ANGELS series that person for Johnny is Polly. She is bright and cheerful, always able to make everyone around her smile, a true ray of sunshine on dark gloomy day.

Polly and Johnny soon start a relationship that goes from flirty to blazing hot in seconds. But when tragedy strikes again their new found happy ever after will be put to the ultimate test.

The character of Polly was really amazing for the reason that she shows she got up from the ground when life got her down. Her character proved that people are strong and determined when wanting to take back control, but as we all know that takes guts and getting there is never easy.  Finding the strength to keep at it is a achievement all on its own, and getting rid of that sense of  belonging is almost never achieved. I truly adored that she was such a strong woman, and the little trick she pulls to get Johnny's attention and bring him out from hiding was so risky yet at the same time an awesome touch.

The character of Johnny was one that made me want to cry I ached so badly for him, losing his happy ever after, finding it again and then very nearly losing it all again.  I could understand his actions with going from lonely to needing action to letting go of it all and putting that wall firmly back in place, yet I was concerned that he would not get back up and fight.  The author,  however, did a remarkable job bringing it all in focus for this poor man.

The backdrop settings were fun, exciting but also laced with emotional drama, which perfectly captured the emotion unfolding between Polly and Johnny. It was as if the heartbreaking situations of a hospital and its staff,  who fight to save lives,  was being mirrored in the actions of Johnny, almost cold and unattached. As for me,  I kept thinking that for Polly, that  moment when a doctor literally saves a life and feels pride for what he has achieved factored in a turning point and the author perfectly let that spill over into the relationship between the two..

I loved the message this read gave me, everyone needs a little sunshine for when it's gone life will be a dark and lonely place.

I highly recommend this read for lovers of romance with heartfelt emotion that will bring you to the point of tears, for those who love a second chance romance written with exquisite detail, and most of all for any lover of Lynne Marshall books!

She lives a quiet life in Tullibaird now, with ne'er a breath of scandal attached to her name.  But the arrival of the leather clad biker, Dr. Nick Rudd, to join the clinic where Emma works,  threatens to crumble her confident facade.  Dr. Rudd is none other than Nick Malone, the town's erstwhile bad boy who left Emma to face a traumatic situation all alone at the time when she needed him most.  Nick is adamant that he's come back for Emma as he always said he would.  She on the other hand, having built a life for herself after her world fell apart, doesn't want to revisit the past and her hidden heartache.

So can this couple ever heal the wounds of the past and move on into the future of which they'd once dreamed  enthusiastically?  Or is it really all over?

This is a small town romance with the feel of community involvement and mostly endearing if flawed characters.  Just normal human beings, with all their faults and failings.  It's also a medical romance, which, I believe, was originally intended for Harlequin.  Well, it's very much their loss.  This book tackles the issue of how teenage affairs can take a a tragic turn, leaving scars on the psyche.

An emotional read which will leave you with both a tear in your eye and a smile on your face and maybe even a couple of sighs along the way.  Suzanna Ross presents Emma's agony in a beautiful and sensitive manner.  Although it tackles a sad subject, it also shows, as all good romance fiction does, how the healing power of love can work its magic.

Most guys will tell you they have been there done and dusted got the t-shirt, you meet your best friends little sister and in the instant you know as badly as you want her she is off limits.

It even happens to most woman out there but for us we tend to not so much care and go for our brothers best friend anyway but with guys it is a different kind of unspoken rule.

In the fifth book from the new Mills and Boon NYC Angels series I was shown just such a situation and by a brilliant author that knew how to take a everyday situation and turn it into a remarkable and incredible story of finding the love of a lifetime right under your nose.

The read is about sexy-I'll-rock-your-world-in-bed-but-you-will-never-have-the-key-to-my-heart Dr Brad. He has known Chloe for years as his best friends little sister she's hot and tempting but also mainly she is off limits.

But when she shows up on his doorstep barefoot and wearing practically nothing how is the poor man suppose to resist. She of course is in need of some help with getting her life back on track and rid of her cheating ex. I am sure you can catch the drift over here they very soon cannot keep their hands of each other and very soon we have a rather tricky situation that can mean more than a world of hurt for them both.

The characters of Brad and Chloe were both very unique, Chloe is the one you start to feel sorry for as she has been hurt and you want her to find her way in life again but very soon I was feeling more sorry for Brad as the author revealed to me that the man simply does not know how to love and keeping the key to his heart guarded is all he focuses on.

The backdrop setting and dialogue was fun and light at times but also laced with powerful emotion that brought me to tears and also reminded me that what we learn from our parents really does have a effect on the person we turn out to be and it takes a really special kind of person to show you the other side of what your missing.

The author delivered a powerful, compelling and entertaining read guaranteed to make you realise that after reading this one you will be hooked on her books and waiting in anticipation for the next release.

I highly recommend this read for lovers of medical romance related reads and for anyone that has ever had a crush of any kind on anyone that was off limits, Tina Beckett will show you just how hot and dirty fun can turn into the perfect romance.

Growing up has never been easy for anyone, even those that you think have it all, have some kind of secret lurking behind closed doors. However generally most of us do thankfully have loving parents that will guide us through life and always be there no matter what.

But their harsh life lessons can for some mean the end of a perfect world and we resent them or wish we had someone else in their place, and in the end you turn your back on them and walk away.

In the sixth book from the Mills and Boon NYC Angels series author Wendy S.Marcus introduced me to the world of adoption, regret and fear of the unknown, showing me as reader that when life throws us a curve ball we have no choice but to step up to the plate and make the hit.

The read tells of Scarlet, always dedicated to her patients and ready to make a difference in the world. She has no time to wonder about the past or what her future might have been like if she had been given the opportunity to take one of life's most precious gifts and live out deck of card dealt.

She befriends a teenager Jessie, she knows that Jessie making her dad out to be the most awful man on planet earth is actually hiding behind a world of hurt and simply needs a friend to talk to and intervene just a little to help set the most awful dad, on the road to perfect single parenthood.

The man to be set on the right path however turns out to be sexy I'll-push-you-into-a-closet-and-do-very-bad-wicked things to your body Dr. Lewis Jackson, a man that most definitely registers on Scarlet's every dirty sexual fantasy scale. Of course having made up her mind to get her life on track this is one closet hopping badboy doc she must resist.

The character of Scarlet was a very touching one, I truly felt such deep sorrow for what she had to go through as a young teenager and I do not wish this kind of pain upon my worst enemy. I loved that the author  showed her as confident and dedicated to overcoming her past hurt, showing that what does not break us makes us stronger.

The character of Lewis was simply divine! Smart, fun and sexy but yes also a bit of a jerk-ish type when it came to facing his fears. But I did like how the author takes the little things of having a teenager daughter and underwear and making it a centre-point of Lewis's new found hellish life, offering up some really hilarious moments to give a dash of comedy at watching a man's attempt at raising a teenager, but also letting these moments change his perspective on life.

The backdrop setting of  two homes in need of a family was beautifully depicted by the author, she also showed that adoption is not only the hardest thing some woman need to face but also sometimes the only way to ensure your child has a good life.

The dialogue was at most times very sexy and laced with humour but the author also really dug deep into the emotional side of unhappy childhoods and the impact it can have on us and our actions we take at a later stage in adult life.

I highly recommend this read for anyone and everyone looking for a good romance with a heartfelt message of the choices we make are not always our own but when offered the chance to change our lives we need to go for it before it's too late and find a way to make it work.

The author also introduced me to a little bit more information on the mysterious Alejandro as featured only in glimpses so far during the first five books and the one woman that can bring him to his knees. Thus I know  am in for even more great reading from this spectacular series.

This is book two from the Mills and Boon NYC Angels Medical Series. I was again taken into the world and lives of the staff of Angels Hospital and the truly amazing job the Dr's and nurses behind the scenes do when saving lives. This time I got to learn more about a character that popped up during the first book, Eleanor Aston.

Eleanor is daughter to a Senator and has always been mindful of what and where she does out in public, having more than once faced the paparazzi and their hurtful words always aimed at her and her appearance, after all she will never be her sister, she knows it is better to stick to wearing her scrubs and helping the kids.

So when dream hunk-romance your pants off cowboy turned Dr, yes you read it right a cowboy turned Dr, what more could any woman ask for it's like the perfect man, sets his sights on her she as three thoughts, first she has no idea what the man sees in her, second she needs to run before she falls for the Texas charm so many woman before her has and risk loosing her heart and third why not let go and live a little, just for one night. That is until that one night turns into so much more than she bargained for.

The characters of Ellie and Ty were in all aspects simply the perfect couple, Ellie being the shy and reserved daughter and Ty being the one to show her just how much of a woman she really is, and Ellie in turn showing him a side of himself he never knew existed.

Ty was a character after my own heart, strong, sexy as sin, smart, kind, caring, funny yes ladies the man has it all!  But he also has some demons from his past that when rearing it's head in this read showed the scared little boy he is inside, and the author did a brilliant job at letting the scared little boy unfold to a man that stands up for what he believes in. Ellie was also stunningly transformed by the author into something so much more than just a heiress.

The backdrop setting  included of course New York City and the Angels Hospital, but also a exquisite ranch out in Texas, described in vivid detail by the author giving me as reader that open spaces and freedom feeling that goes with Texas, but the author also let a message of being who you want to be in life be mirrored through her descriptions of the land, horses and family living there.

The dialogue was fun, witty and sexy! I loved how the author let the words flow from the pages and it was as if I could touch the emotions of the characters whilst being taken on a journey of acceptance.

A heartfelt, sensual, and compelling read.

NYC Angels: Redeeming The Playboy by Carol Marinelli

This is book one in the new exciting Mills and Boon NYC Angels Medical series. I was not only introduced to a hospital where everyone involves fight for those who can't but also to what happens behind the closed doors of  those who have to keep their emotional detachment in tact whilst fighting for a better tomorrow.

The read tells the story of Nina, social worker who fights for the rights of children and their parents whilst going head to head with the staff of Angles Hospital, she says the children stay with the parents and Angels say they go. The one person who is always up in arms about it all is sexy as sin, strip me now, take me and make me yours, head Paediatrician Jack Carter.

Jack discards woman faster and more often than surgical gloves! But when he gets Nina into his bed he suddenly gets a taste of his own medicine as Nina holds back any emotion and upholds an image of "I love 'em and leave 'em".

Not liking it one bit Jack sets his sights on getting Nina to let go, but what he discovers is that there is more to Nina than meets the eye, and getting her to reveal all proves more difficult than he thought, and soon a battle of wills ensue that leaves both their lives in need of emergency care.

The main characters were both wonderfully written by the author, Nina is the woman who most of us today either is or wants to be, she works hard for what she believes in and to ensure her future for a family will be met. She never takes time out to play, instead always thinking of others. I loved how the author let Nina really be passionate about her clients, as so often I hear about social workers not really caring about what happens afterwards and instead just want to get it done and over with.

Jack is the kind of hero I totally adore, yes a bit of a jerk but when he gets the run around from Nina and sees his own actions from past relationships filter through he becomes the type of hero we all would love to have, the author beautifully transforms him from regular jerk-them-around to perfect-everlasting-hero.

The backdrop setting of New York was absolutely perfect as the author let the wild, restless heart of the city be portrayed through her characters, bringing home the message of the city never sleeps and neither do the rescuing angels.

The author gave me tearful moments with the mention of children and what some need to go through by the hands of others, but there was also family moments that brought the read to live with very vividly described instances of just how the outside image is not what is necessarily being experienced on the inside.

The dialogue was very fun to read during scenes where Nina and Jack go head to head during moments of passion and of conflict, but the author also packed a emotional punch with her words and I could truly hear the sounds of staff running for emergencies, and taste the despair and hurt the characters go through.

The sexual heat was of the flirty and very sexy kind, the author burned up the pages with hotter than hot sex scenes and I might also add a very scorching office scene, the kind to leave you breathless and all excited to see what happens next.

A compelling, sensual, sexy, emotionally packed, drama filled read, that will leave you begging for more!

Doctor's Decision by Teresa Ashby

This was a really dramatic yet sweet romance. The book was about a trauma counsellor Greg, and a Dr. Cara who meet and quickly fall into each others arms.

However, they both know that after the ship has sailed they will never see each other again. Thankfully the author added in a little twist and the ship runs into some trouble causing many casualties and our dear Dr. Cara is one of them.

So yes this was the sweet part where Greg takes care of Cara and nurses her back to health. Thus more feelings are created between the two characters and I as reader was thinking the whole time, " Oh yes this will turn out good".

But I was disappointed as Cara comes face to face with a tragedy and returns to Australia alone. And so followed a series of events that brought to light the bitterness that Cara faces without Greg in her life, the one man that sets her body on fire and makes her heart soar.

The author did a outstanding job at showing me as reader both characters deepest and most vulnerable sides and let me in on both their emotional upsets and how each one's life obligations influences their decisions. The characters were memorable ones, which is the best kind as they will stay with me for a long time.

The backdrop setting was one of beauty and perfectly incorporated  into this book. The dialogue was  powerful, emotional and spoke to me as reader.

I liked the ending of this one very much, also the message of overcoming your fears was strongly laid out by the author.

Highly recommended

Hot-Shot Doc Comes to Town by Susan Carlisle

Absolutely adored this book! Seriously could not stop reading and ended up reading it in one sitting. The story dealt with pass emotions keeping the characters captive in their current lives each too afraid to let go and find happiness.

But in true romance style this author took the emotional wrecks and brought them together with overwhelming emotion, passionate romance and a lesson of life that will stay with me for a long time.

Both the characters of Taylor and Shelby had their own up's and down's from life that have lead them to believe being alone and just focusing on work is the best option to stay away from hurt and from getting into trouble.

The both also are set in their own ways but with secrets from their past making it 's way into the light so to speak the book got more and more compelling and a real page turner.

The backdrop setting of the small town of Benton was perfect in to may ways,it added to the medical aspect of how medical emergencies in a small town can impact the lives of many when the right person of experience is not around. And how traumatic events even for those trained to deal with it can on the surface seem like they are just doing their jobs but behind the scenes it involves strong overpowering emotions of distress.

The author did a stunning job of using secondary characters to draw the two main characters together. The dialogue was at times fun and flirty but also got really serious which as reader reminded me that these situations can arise in real life just as quick and easy as the author can pen them down.

The entire read was a romantic passionate lesson of love and life happening in a small town for two Dr's whom finally heal each other's broken hearts.

This medical romance from Susan Carlisle really resonated with me.  Not for any personal reason, but because I know from what I’ve seen in life that falling in love and romancing someone nice is wonderful – but sometimes, it takes more than just a  little adjustment or two  to accommodate a lover as a personal fixture in you actual existence as opposed to a diversion..  This is exactly the problem which Dr Taylor Styles and Dr Shelby Wayne find themselves encountering when they meet and fall in love.  She, Dr Shelby,  runs a clinic in a small town community – the place where she and her late husband had dreamed of raising a family.  Running that clinic in her darkest hours of loss gave her a sense of purpose which nothing else could.  She feels strongly attached now and can’t dream of walking away.  But walking away from small town life is exactly what he, Dr Taylor, wants to do.  He had a particularly dark childhood in a small town and he never, ever wants to go back there again.  He wants to leave the claustrophobic community behind and remain with the bright lights in the big city.

Yet the small community draws him in and he become a part of their lives, confiding in him their joys and sorrows, their issues and problems.  He begins to realize that he may not dislike life in a small town  a much as he thought it would.  For her part, she has to learn to detach a little from the clinic at the heart of the  local community and discover  herself.  In other words, get a life.

So how do each of these special people find the middle ground?  You’d have to read this book to find out.  But I promise you, it will be worth it.  Susan Carlisle's writing brought this story vividly alive and the characters were as real to me as the person sitting beside me as I was reading.

An enjoyable, emotional read with a satisfying and credible conclusion.

Sweet, passionate, sensual, romantic, passionate are just some words that came to mind while reading this fabulous book!

I completely adored that Sophie and Alex have a hot and steamy night together( the whole masquerade ball idea LOVED IT) and then go their separate ways until a cruel twist of fate brings them back together so forceful that they both feel like they have been hit by a truck and are in need of some serious medical attention.

The characters were beautifully brought to life by the truly unique writing of Nicole Flockton. Both were strong, independent, go getters and both found it impossible to resit the strong and overpowering sexual attraction between each other.

The characters were so real that I felt as it I could actually feel the anguish of poor Sophie and the roller coaster of emotions Alex takes her on.

I loved the medical backdrop and the incorporation of real medical emergencies gave the book that true life feel. I loved that there were interesting main and secondary characters and the whole book was just a delight to read.

I loved that this was a easy read the words rolled of the pages.

Masquerade is a beautiful and sweet romantic story set in the fast lane of the Emergency Department.

I adored the beginning (I swear I wrote this before I saw Desere's review).  Alex and Sophie, seemingly two opposites, meet and attract at the New Years Masquerade Ball.  The night goes off with a bang.  I could just imagine the beautiful setting in Perth, the lights glittering and the fireworks above, it was put together beautifully.  Alex and Sophie spend the night together, one night they both agree will be literally just one night before they carry on with their lives.  I was mesmerised by the descriptive writing and I loved the description of Alex undoing Sophie's mask and Sophie let if flutter to the ground. It was like an analogy of Sophie letting go of the past and starting anew.

Neither know who each other is until they meet again in the ED cubicle.  Dr Scavoni and Nurse Sophie! There's shock for both parties to look up at each other over a patient they are rushing to save.  Even more shocking to discover they are both the heads of their departments and have to share an office.  I really liked the discovery of who they were and how it was handled.  There was the perfect amount of shock and even humour when Sophie tells Alex all she needs now is his wife to turn up slap her.  Brilliantly written.

From here it just gets better and better.  Alex knows he's fighting a loosing battle with his feelings for Sophie.  Sophie's experience with her ex fiance is her main roadblock and who he is but both are drawn together like magnets.  With the background of thrilling emergencies and the delightful romantic thrills I was cursing I had to put the story down!

How do Alex and Sophie handle working together?  Can they resist their desires to reenact their one night?  It was only supposed to be one night!  How do they handle the complications of their pasts to enable to set them selves free to take a chance with each other?  Only reading Masquerade will help answer those questions.

I loved Masquerade and would highly recommend it for anyone who loves beautiful and sweet romantic stories mixed in with fantastic emergencies that one faces in the fast track of ED.  I don't read many Medicals, thanks to Masquerade I am seriously hooked and am now going to devour as many Medicals as I can.

5 stars for sure!

The title of this book and the cover are testament to the old saying 'never judge a book by it's cover'.  I had thought it would be something darkly erotic.  And I couldn't have been more wrong.  And that's the second time a book has fooled me recently.

Sophie and Alex meet on New Year's Eve at a masked ball.  Both are hurting from broken relationships and the possibility that their job/position in society may make it impossible to ever be in a happy relationship.  They're drawn together and decide to spend the night together, top secret and no repercussions.  But life has a way of  sneaking up on you and catching you out.  Especially your next day back at work.

I've no intention of spoiling the surprise, but believe me, when you've been no hold barred intimate with someone and they're working beside you right after that, this is one heck of a problem.  What do you do?  Carry on as if it never happened?  Or get into a relationship anyway and see if it will work out?  What have you got to lose anyway?

An intriguing little story.  I enjoyed it a lot.  I confess I was a little astonished that Sophie didn't take medication when she was ill, especially given the nature of her profession, but I suppose people in medicine and nursing are human just like the rest of us.  I also confess that I was a little disappointed in the hero at the black moment., although he redeemed himself just in time.  Maybe other readers wouldn't agree, but then, that's me....

I enjoyed this book and would recommend this to readers of romantic fiction.
